Commerce Server Standard 2009 (Includes Software Assurance and 1 Processor License) (English)
Commerce Server is a scalable platform for developing, deploying, managing, and upgrading Web e-commerce applications. The Standard Edition is intended for medium deployments and is limited to two Web servers and a maximum of two CPUs per server.
Customers use a computer, a mobile device, or other channels to access a Commerce Server Web application. Such Web applications typically involve purchasing or otherwise ordering products that are browsed online, placed in a basket, and ultimately acquired by going through a check-out process.
At the core of Commerce Server are five integrated management systems:
- Catalog (products, variations, virtual catalogs, virtual properties, multiple languages and currencies, full-text and property-based searches)
- Inventory (searching, back-ordering, out-of-stock items)
- Marketing (content targeting, upselling and cross-selling, advertisements, email campaigns, discounts, coupons)
- Orders (pipeline architecture, order splitting, multiple shopping carts)
- Profiles (personalization, user targeting, organizations, purchase orders)
A Commerce Server application can use any or all of these systems.
Commerce Server 2009 features full integration with .NET Framework 3.5 (including ASP.NET), SharePoint Server 2007, Visual Studio 2008, SQL Server 2008, and the Windows Server family, including Windows Server 2008.
Here are some notable features of this product:
- The new default site is a production-ready, color-neutral Web site that can be easily customized and deployed. New skinning and page templating features mean nondevelopers can change the appearance of a site in real time without programming knowledge.
- Business user management tools like Customer and Order Manager, Catalog and Inventory Manager, and Marketing Manager enable business users to directly maintain their data and work seamlessly with the default site or any other custom-built site.
- The Business Processing Pipeline System provides features for order handling, shipping method maintenance and multiple shipment handling, discount handling, currency handling, and efficient pipeline loading and running. (A pipeline is an extensible software framework that defines and links two or more stages of a business process, running them in sequence to complete a specific task.)
- The new SharePoint Commerce Services provide more than 30 out-of-the-box e-commerce Web parts and controls to give organizations building blocks for constructing and updating a Web site. A new modular design means changes can be made without interfering with site performance.
