Small Business Server 2011 Standard Edition (Includes Software Assurance and 5 CALs) (English)

Small Business Server 2011 Standard Edition provides small organizations with many of the features used by large organizations — folder and printer sharing, an email server, tools to manage Internet access, internal websites (intranets), remote access, support for mobile devices, and backup/restore tools — in an integrated product that supports up to 75 users.

Small Business Server 2011 is available only as a 64-bit operating system and can be installed only on a server with a 64-bit processor.

Remote Web Access gives any worker with a web browser secure access to email, internal websites, shared folders, organization and administration links, and networked computers. Access can be restricted by assignment to groups or roles. Windows Mobile–based devices can access e-mail, calendar, contacts, and tasks from the server.

The organization is protected from unauthorized users and data loss with:

  • Built-in firewall protection
  • Automatic data backup and the ability to retrieve and restore previous versions

Automated patch and update management tools keep the server and networked computers up-to-date. Administrators can set the level of automatic approval and the times at which updates occur.

Small Business Server's management console provides administrators with a set of tabs and wizards that lets them perform all necessary tasks. The console's Home window shows at a glance by green check or warning icons whether security, updates, backups, and other functions are OK or need attention.

Included Technologies: Small Business Server 2011 Standard combines these Windows server technologies:

  • The core Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard technologies, including network tools and network security; file, print, and application sharing; and firewall protection (but not including technologies appropriate only to medium-to-large enterprises)
